Personal Background & History
Andrea was born in Tacoma, Washington, and was raised in Jacksonville, Florida. Her father was a former coal miner turned Army soldier. Andrea spent nearly the first 6 years of her life moving from one Army base to another. Her family settled in Jacksonville, Florida, in 1976, shortly after her father’s retirement from the Army. Andrea has lived here ever since. If you’ve already read Steve Combs’ bio, this paragraph should sound really familiar to you . . . but that’s ok, as Andrea is Steve’s little sister!
Andrea graduated from Fletcher High School in 1988, after which she attended college, all the while working, often full time, and while raising a family with her husband, Scott. Andrea’s jobs ranged from working at Walmart, where she met her husband, from being a receptionist at the weekend real estate office at Queens Harbor (before any houses were even built, to working for Universal Card Services.
Andrea and Scott were married in 1994, at Neptune Baptist Church, in Neptune Beach, Florida. Andrea and Scott have three children, two daughters, and a son. Andrea’s husband, Scott is an educator at the Episcopal School of Jacksonville, where he teaches history. All of Andrea’s time away from the office is spent with her family, including her brother and sister-in-law, who are also the shareholders at Combs Greene. She really likes to keep her work “all in the family!” In fact, Andrea began working at Combs Greene as a non-lawyer legal assistant/paralegal, and after watching Steve, her brother, and Deborah Greene, her sister-in-law, practicing law, she thought to herself, “I can do that!” and she promptly went to law school, where, not surprisingly, she excelled, ultimately graduating in the top 20% of her class!
Andrea always attended church while she was growing up, and she and her family are active members of Chets Creek Church, where Andrea served in the pre-school ministry for 7 years.
In addition to spending time with her family and on her church activities, Andrea enjoys watching her children compete in cheer leading, softball, basketball and soccer. Most Saturdays Andrea and her husband are running around from one field to another watching their kids play sports or cheer. Andrea also enjoys reading novels.
Andrea and Scott believe in fostering an attitude of volunteerism, and they and their children recently hosted a party for refugees through the World Relief organization. Their children also actively volunteer with daniel inc. She and her family also love to travel, and are planning a trip to Scottland, where Andrea’s husband was born! Her family even hosted a foreign exchange student from China, and will be housing another one from France.
Andrea’s favorite books are the Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich (or any other books by that author), as well as any of the books by Vince Flynn, and her favorite movie is Elf . . . and believe it or not, Andrea is often heard quoting lines from Elf to her family and friends, including frequently answering the phone when her family calls as follows: “Buddy the Elf . . . what’s your favorite color?!?” But seriously, you won’t find many lawyers who possess just the right blend of a no-nonsense, straight forward approach to legal issues, excellent analytical and legal abilities, peppered with humor and compassion, and good old-fashioned common sense! And when she’s not dealing with a legal issue for one of her clients, or running around to various sporting events to support her children, she’s a heck of a lot of fun to be around!
